The short answer

The Acropolis is visited with timed-entry tickets, and the best time is the first slot of the day, when it is coolest and quietest. At our last check the standard adult ticket was €30, sold through the Hellenic Ministry of Culture’s official platform; always confirm price, hours and slots before you travel. Allow about two hours on the rock plus time in the Acropolis Museum.

Tickets and timed entry

Entry to the Acropolis is by timed slot, and the number of visitors is limited at any one time to protect the monument. Reseller prices are often higher than the official ticket, so we book through official channels. Opening hours differ between summer and winter and can change on days of extreme heat, so check the Ministry of Culture before you go.

What you will see

The Parthenon (built 447–432 BC), the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its porch of six Caryatids. The Caryatids on the building are copies; the originals are displayed in the Acropolis Museum.

Dress and shoes

Wear flat shoes with good grip. The marble is polished by centuries of feet and is slippery, particularly when wet. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water in summer.

Accessibility

The site has a lift for visitors with reduced mobility and a step-free route has been installed in recent years. Availability can depend on works at the site, so we confirm details when you book.

Combine with the Acropolis Museum and Ancient Agora

The museum, opened in 2009, is a 10-minute walk from the entrance. The Ancient Agora, with the well-preserved Temple of Hephaestus, is on the north-west side of the Acropolis and is best visited in the afternoon.
